Spiti Valley also acts as a bridge between India and Tibet providing us with a place where the two cultures collide. As you begin the trip from Shimla, you will notice a gradual rise of altitude along with ruggedness.

This duration of the Spiti Valley road trip takes a full 9-day course to complete, starting from Shimla and ending at Manali. So, you get to experience the two common ways which lead an individual to the Spiti Valley.

Before reaching Spiti valley, you get to stay at some of the famous villages in Kinnaur Valley namely Narkanda and Chitkul. Also,  Kalpa by the River Sutlej is a town that mesmerizes us with its serene landscapes and great viewpoints.

Other than the lofty mountains, Spiti Valley is famous for its people and the local cultures. The locals are heartwarming with their culture and the hospitality is top-notch. While you are in Spiti, you have to visit the villages of Kaza, Dhankar, Tabo, and Kibber. Without a visit to these villages, you’ll never get to experience Spiti Valley to its fullest.

Buddhism influences the Spiti Valley and here you get to see some of the best monasteries in the country. The Nako and Tabo monasteries in Spiti Valley are not only old, but they also hold the history of the valley.

Kaza is a key village and you have to visit the main market in the Spiti Valley for it is the best place if you’re looking for souvenir items. The village has always been a trading hub and it currently hosts the Ladarcha Fair in July or August. You can even find handicraft pieces made of human bone.

Kaza is the gateway to Hikkim which houses the highest Post Office in the world, and you may send a letter to a dear one from there if you like. You should also stop at the Key monastery which is 12 KM from Kaza. Along with its historical importance, the Tibetan monastery provides a panoramic view.

18 KM from Kaza, you can visit Kibber, which is one of the highest inhabited villages in Spiti Valley at 14,200 ft. above sea level. Roam around the village to take in the culture or have a tour of the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Spiti valley is also known for its streams and lakes. Among them, Chandra Tal Lake is a famous one because of its shape and the crystal blue water. You can also enjoy camping in Spiti Valley which is organized near the beautiful lake. Also, experience the vast meadows which turn lit green in summers.
